Program: Creation of two new buildings for the restaurant and the school installations. Transformation of an existing house into a small training hotel.
" Created in 1984 to bring urgent aid to the refugee camps situated on the Thai border, Agir pour le Cambodge, a French charity, began to concentrate on development aid in 1995. With its long-term objective being to transfer these programs to the local population, the management of two of these programs, fair-trade tourism and rural development, was handed over to committees of villagers in 2009. In 2002, Agir pour le Cambodge created Sala Bai, a school for vocational training in the restaurant and hotel industry, located in Siem Reap.
Each year the school trains - free of charge - about 100 young disadvantaged Cambodians. After twelve years operation, more than 1100 Sala Bai students have been trained for careers in the growing hospitality industry, enabling them to achieve economic independence and improve the living conditions of their families.
The training lasts one year and offers four different training departments: Restaurant Service, Cooking, Front Office and Housekeeping. The program includes theory classes (technical training, English, general education & life skills) and practical experience at our training facilities and during internships at our partner hotels. In short, the training Hotel and Restaurant – run by the students - are places of essential learning activity and work experience. They are open to the public and allow us to self-fund a part of the program.
With its new configuration, Sala Bai is able to admit more students every year."
